Tlalpan Forest is a large natural lung at the South of Mexico City. It is a Protected Natural Area of 252 hectares standing on a volcanic zone that covered the ancient city of Cuicuilco.
This urban woodland has near 200 different species of flora, many of them are endemic and some have a special status of protection, including pines and orchids. It also has 134 species of animal life, comprising snakes, ducks and sparrow hawks.
The forest used to have a zoo that closed in 1988. Afterwards, it acquired the status of protected area and nowadays it offers many activities, such as sports and recreation, races, parties for kids, summer camps and education on ecology. You'll feel very close to nature within this gigantic city!
