Directions to Chapultepec Park and Zoo
Chapultepec Park is the oldest park on the continent and has an important role in the community and life here. This park makes up nearly 60% of the green space in Mexico City, at 686 hectares. It is a wonderful mix of museum, botanical garden, and zoo, with lots on offer. Within the park you can find the Museum of Anthropology, Chapultepec Castle, huge lakes, the National History Museum, routes for jogging, a children's museum called Papalote, and an amusement park called La Faria. This is more of a social enterprise and community space than just an attraction. With all this green space, the free entrance to the zoo, and the commitment to environment, education and research, this is a place with real heart.
In the zoo you can see the animals running around in front of skyscraper backdrops, which perfectly captures the contrast of this city zoo. Chapultepec Zoo opened in 1923 but recently underwent huge renovations. Most of the animals live outside as the climate is just right for that. Visit the tigers, bears, elephants, chimps, lions, hippos and giraffes.
