Directions to Espacio Escultórico UNAM
Opened in 1979, this cultural space was designed by one of the most prominent Mexican sculptures: Federico Silva. It is an interdisciplinary master peace aimed at combining arts and nature in one public space. Seven outstanding artists of UNAM participated in this project: Silva, Manuel Felguerez, Helena Escobedo, Hesua, Sebastian, Mathias Goeritz and Roberto Acuña.
Its main purpose is to reproduce a cosmic image of the pre-Hispanic world represented as a circle with a diameter of 120 meters, supported by giant 64 pillars. The circle frames a natural sea of death lava and it is surrounded by a botanic garden with endemic species and many sculptures of the seven mentioned artists.
