Directions to Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil
The profile of the Museum of Art Carrillo Gil (MACG) has led him to be identified as an area that not only has a significant heritage collection, but as a site for research and experimentation for young artists. Above all, as a laboratory for the visual arts and their new language space. This certainly gives a special place in the cultural scene of the country.
The museum was founded by Dr. Alvar Carrillo Gil, a Yucatecan entrepreneur who started his collection with the acquisition of a drawing by José Clemente Orozco titled Chole (1913-1915). Thinking of where to host and display his collection, Carrillo Gil Fernando Gamboa commissioned the project and museum exhibit Augusto H. Álvarez architectural project based on a system of ramps to allow continuous circulation, and a system of louvers to the outside with a skylight to control entry of light and temperature.
This museum showcases the work of young contemporary artists through temporary and innovative exhibitions of videos, art objects, installation art, paintings, sculptures, among others. Its rooms display the selected and awarded works of the Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven (National Young Artists Convention), which has motivated young artists for the past 30 years.
