Directions to Palacio de Correos

Architectural fans will enjoy the Palacio de Correos (Postal Palace of Mexico City), located in the historical centre. It is a working post office housed inside an impressive building that incorporates an eclectic mix of styles.

Its design draws upon Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Gothic, Neoclassical and Baroque influences. Inside it flaunts many arches, staircases, and wrought iron pillars, with marble surfaces and intricate brass and gold carvings weaved into its stonework. The steel frame of the building has helped it to survive numerous earthquakes in the region, yet the earthquake of 1985 caused severe damage to the building. Restoration work began in the 90s to help restore its former grandeur.

The fourth floor of the elegant building houses the Naval History Museum, which displays models, maps and photographs to document Mexico's naval history. Divided into six areas, each focuses on different aspects of navigation in Mexico.
